The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 is a high-end desktop graphics card based on the AD103 chip using the Ada Lovelace architecture. The 4080 offers 9,728 cores and 16 GB GDDR6X graphics memory with a 256 bit memory bus and clocked at 22.4 Gbits. The card offers a very good raytracing performance thanks to the 76 dedicated raytracing cores. For AI calculations (and DLSS 3 in games), the RTX 4080 has 304 Tensor cores.

The gaming performance is well suited for 4k60 gaming in maximum detail settings and 2k gaming with higher frame rates. Even Raytracing effects can be used with DLSS in most games. Compared to the competition, the RTX 4080 is on par with the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT with a noticeable advantage when raytracing is used.

The AD103 chp is manufactured in the modern 4nm process at TSMC (4N with EUV) and specified with a TGP (Total Graphics Power) of 320 Watt (compared to the 450 Watt of the RTX 4090). Nvidia is recommending a 750 Watt power supply for the RTX4080.

AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT ► remove from comparison

The AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT is a mobile upper mid-range graphics card based on the Navi 33 chip (RDNA 3 architecture) manufactured in 6nm. It features 2,048 cores (32 CUs - compute units) and 8 GB of fast GDDR6 graphics memory connected with a 128 Bit memory bus. The chip also includes 32 MB Infinity Cache. The clock speed of the cores will depend on the laptop according to AMD. The specified game clock speed is 2300 MHz (most likely at 120 W TGP). 

AMD compares the performance to the RTX 3060 desktop GPU and claims significantly faster frame rates in a couple of games (without Raytracing). Although the Raytracing performance did increase for RDNA 3, the GeForce GPUs are still faster in this regard.

The Navi 33 chip is manufactured at TSMC in the current 6nm process (versus 4nm of Nvidia RTX 4000 series). The power consumption (TGP) is specified at 75 to 120 Watt.

AMD Radeon RX 7600M ► remove from comparison

The AMD Radeon RX 7600M is a mobile upper mid-range graphics card based on the Navi 33 chip (RDNA 3 architecture) manufactured in 6nm. It features 1,792 cores (28 CUs - compute units) and 8 GB of fast GDDR6 graphics memory connected with a 128 Bit memory bus. The chip also includes 32 MB Infinity Cache. The clock speed of the cores will depend on the laptop according to AMD. The specified game clock speed is 2070 MHz (most likely at 90 W TGP). 

The performance should be similar to the old Radeon RX 6650M XT (28 CUs RDNA 2, higher clock speed) and therefore best suited for 1080p gaming. Although the Raytracing performance did increase for RDNA 3, the GeForce GPUs are still faster in this regard.
